All 3 are the perfect recipe to being able to finish strong and faster than the balloon ladies. What happens if you have 2 of the 3, but not all 3? Let’s go through the scenarios.
❌ If you have speed and strength, you’re fast for short distances but you’re missing stamina so you can’t run the whole distance so you get swept.
❌ If you have stamina and strength, you’re slow for long distances, but you aren’t fast so you can’t stay ahead of the balloon ladies so you get swept.
❌ If you have speed and stamina you can run fast for the whole distance… but you aren’t strong so you’re in pain and injured.
Real talk:
If you still can’t get past 8 miles even after 2 weeks rest, new shoes and following the training plan to a T, it’s not because you’re out of shape.

I’m Dr. Ali.
Doctor of Physical Therapy. Personal Trainer. Nutrition Coach.
When I’m not reading Harry Potter, at Disney (or wishing I was), hanging with my dog & husband, or crocheting amigurumi, I’m helping runners train for their next runDisney race to cross the finish line healthy, strong and confident.
As a coach with 12+ years in the rehab space, I’m an expert in running injuries and I’ve taken my clients all the way from barely able to run a few minutes because of an injury to being happy, motivated and running magical races.
I’m not going to tell you “you just need to do more.” More isn’t always better.
Instead, I’ll give you specifics on how much weight and resistance to use during your strength workouts.
And I’ll give you specific speeds and paces to keep during your running workouts so you push yourself just enough to make progress, but not so much to wake up injuries.
