choose when you have your pain

As you train you measure your success and readiness by how much you can push through

Why does it matter?

It matters because you shouldn't take weeks off to rest unless you absolutely have to.

Did you know that when you rest too long you decrease your muscles and joints tolerance to the load that you put on them with activities like running?

Have you ever been told by your doctor "no running"?... For any length of time? And then you do that for a while. The pain goes away. So then some time later they say since the pain is gone you can run again... only for the pain to come back again?

If the answer is yes, then you’re like most of my clients.

It’s because your muscles and joints lost some of their tolerance to the pressure, even if it was just a week or two. And then if you ran the next training run on your plan your body wasn’t ready for it. So the pain comes back.

Instead of rest, there are other things you could be doing to heal.

Because advice of "no running" usually is needed only for about 20% of cases.

So should doctors be telling 100% of runners to rest when 80% of them could be doing something else?

No, I don't think so. Let’s get the answer right 100% of the time.

Hi!👋🏻

I’m Dr. Ali

I help women train for and finish runDisney races when they’ve had an injury.

I knew I wanted to help people from a young age, originally thinking I wanted to be a physician and realizing as a Sophomore in high school that I actually wanted to be a physical therapist. And through the years that has progressed to including a personal trainer and nutrition coach to help my clients reach their running goals after being injured.

Originally from Massachusetts I left to go to college and grad school at Ithaca College where I received my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT). After working a few years in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in outpatient orthopedic clinics I moved to Las Vegas where I currently work and live with my husband, Royal and our dog, Levi.

When I’m not working you can find me reading Harry Potter, at Disney (or wishing I was), crocheting Amigurumi, or running and walking around my neighborhood.
